Player Profiles
Here's some information about the
current bunch of playing Dolphin members. Though it looks like we have
all appeared on recent episodes of Crime Watch, we really are a great
bunch of blokes, who play the game in the right spirit, enjoy a beer
and have a thoroughly good time representing this superb cricket club.
Many thanks to Roger for compiling all
the facts and to Lofty, Statto & Zippy for their help putting together
all of these slanderous words! |

Roger Gregory, the current Club President
(appointed 2005) and former captain (1982/83/84), has been playing for
Dolphins for 26 years and has contributed hugely over the years, no
more so than persuading at least three (easy to lose count!) of his
sons and son-in-law to play regularly for the Club over the years.
Known as 'Senior Pro' or 'Golden Arm', for his consistent knack of
taking a wicket shortly after having come on to bowl, he has amassed
(to 1/7/05) a total of 3876 runs at an average of 20.4, 174 wickets at
an average of 17.2 and 74 catches. Roger is a true all-rounder,
however, not one to get stuck in the changing room with when play is
suspended for rain, as you are never quite sure whether your
conversation with him will become a case study for his psychology
degree studies! Roger is often heard debating with Holdy and Jason?!
about when a boat isn't a boat!?!?! |

2006 was Grahams fourth season as Club
Captain, and joins an elite few who have led the club in four
successive campaigns. He also holds the clubs purse strings as
Treasurer. Zippy always plays the game with a smile and can bowl, keep
wicket and always fancies a bat! Picked up the nickname "Zippy"
following a tour to the Isle-of-Wight in 1991 because of his
remarkable resemblance to the character! Loves to party and any excuse
to dress up as Elvis! |

Former Club Captain and current Joint
Vice Skipper . A very reliable opening bat who has formed some
remarkable opening partnership over the years. Mike also holds a club
record of the most 100's scored which to date total 4 and is also the
Dolphins all time highest run maker. He also became the first Dolphin
to pass the 5,000 run landmark on 29th May 2006, while on tour with
the club at East Huntspill. Nicknamed "Statto" for his extraordinary
skills in producing the club statistics. Current Club Secretary and
Batsman of the Year for 2004. |

Nicknamed "Bonners" for obvious reasons.
Current Joint Vice Captain which he shares with Statto. Dolphins only
left handed batsman who plays the patient innings usually coming in at
No:3 but is also just at home opening the batting. Bon has played in
almost every Dolphin fixture in the past 5 years. Batsman of the Year
in 2005 and Clubman of the Year 2001 he has also won the Lucky Pants
in 2000! Bonners also has the uncanny knack of picking up the random
bird! |

Chris Briggs, otherwise known as 'Briggsy'
or 'Show Pony', due to his unique running style, has made a welcome
return to the Dolphins team after a 4 year period of absence. A
gritty, determined and patient opening bat, Chris has scored over
1,000 runs for the Dolphins and is capable of holding an innings
together single handedly. Also a useful spin bowler, he has bowled
134 overs (at an RPO of 3.8) and taken 35 wickets (at a wicket
average of 14.5) so could also lay claim to being an all rounder.
Chris adds a bit of class and education to any Dolphins line up, but
this hardly looks the case when he is doing his "I'm a Fairy" warm
ups when taking the field or fielding with his black Kangol flat cap
on! Welcome back Briggsy! Chris has three times been Batsman of the
Year in 1998, 2001 and 2006.

"Spain" managed to get the Clubs
first ever sponsor with Aircrete Panels Ltd. Tony is a very good
middle order batsman and has also produced some match winning
performances with his tricky medium pace bowling. Has been known to
halt the whole convoy on it's way to an away match to bring up his
breakfast! Unavailable to represent the club in 2005, it is hoped that
he will return in 2006 as his all round talent is a massive asset to
the team. |

Our only overseas player and has
started to learn the rules of the game quite well - for a Brummie!
Began his Dolphins career as a
right hand slowey but soon got fed up with that and changed to a more
than useful quick bowler running in off just a few paces. Bats
erratically but can be very effective. Captained the Dolphins in 2002
and was Bowler of the Year in 2001,2005 and 2006 when he took an
incredible 58 wickets. Jason has also won the Players Player of the
Year on 2 occassions, 2005 & 2006. He is also the clubs Team
Secretary. |

No.....James Bond! A steady very correct
middle order batsman who in recent seasons has turned his hand to
wicket keeping. Use to be a regular spin bowler, famous for tossing
the ball up very high into the air and picking up wickets whilst
batsmen have fallen asleep waiting for the ball to arrive. Batsman of
the year in 1999. During the 2006 season Deano notched up his 150th
catch for the Dolphins. |

"J.C" has been known to walk on water to
retrieve footballs from the sea during one Isle-of-Wight tour! An
off-break bowler who delivers the ball with quite a zip and has taken
over 200 wickets for the club. J.C. is an excellent fielder with an
accurate throwing arm that has run out numerous batsmen over the
years. Former Skipper and is now a Vice President. Bowler of the Year
1999. |

"Lofty" is a
former Captain and presently is
currently the Fixture Secretary. Mike is a hard hitting middle order
batsman who not only has the ability to push an innings along rapidly
when needed but can also play the anchor role when everything around
him is collapsing. On his day can bowl the most unplayable deliveries.
A very brave fielder and has been hit everywhere on his short stocky
frame. Has also won Batsman of the Year on three occasions, 1997,
2000 and 2003 and was Clubman of the Year for 2004 and 2005 for his
outstanding services to the club. |

Finchy is one of the Dolphins elder
statesmen, being a previous Club Captain (1993-94) and committee
member. Richard brings an array of talent to the club across a wide
spectrum of cricketing related activities. He is a solid batsman with
a keen eye for the ball, preferring to score in boundaries rather than
run the quick single. He is known to brief incoming batsman with the
message "nothing silly now, and no quick singles - I'll do the
calling". Richard takes a specialist fielding position at 2nd slip,
from where he can crack jokes, make witty observations and generally
poke fun at the rest of the team. He bowls a mean googly. His
spectrum of cricket related activities extend to holding other
specialist positions at the bar, where IPA, Stella and his favourite
tipple of vin rouge are known to be taken on board. Just like his
batting, he plays the social side in boundaries as well. |

Nicknamed "Banana Boy" for his uncanny
knack of away swing bowling but has no idea how he does it. Holds the
distinction of taking more wickets for the Dolphins than runs scored.
Was the first winner of the Trevor Crompton Clubman of the Year award

Rich was also Bowler of the Year in 2002. |

Picked up the name Coco due to his
variety of circus acts in the field! Accurate bowler who with more
luck would certainly collect more wickets. Had a very successful 2003
season with both ball & bat which included his highest Dolphin score
of 45 not out at Flamstead. He carried forward his form into 2004 when
he Won Bowler of the Year for 2004 with some fabulous displays of fast
accurate bowling. |

Richard joined the Dolphins during the
2002 season and established himself as a more than useful opening
batsmen during 2003. Sea Gull is an agile fielder and very much a team
player and is an excellent acquisition for the Dolphins.
Rich won the 2003 Champagne Moment of
the Year for his famous Del
Boy "Chateuneuf-Du-Pape" words as he admired Lofty's fantastic 6
against Harpenden. Elected with brother Will as the Dolphins Social
Secretary for 2004. Continues to impress with the bat and scored a
remarkable 95 against Bragbury in the final game of the 2006 season.
Rich jointly won Clubman of the Year with his brother, Will in 2006
for his outstanding passion and dedication to the club both on and off

who joined the Dolphins during the latter part of the 2002 season.

Dolphins. Elected with his brother as the Dolphins Social Secretary
for 2004 and his performances with the bat go from strength to

Clubman of the Year with his brother, Rich in 2006 for his outstanding

Andy joined the club in 1992 as a raw 15
year old cricketer, who quickly established himself as one of the
quickest bowlers to appear for the Dolphins in recent years. He earned
the nickname of Twookes, (from the abbreviation of Two Quid), because
when he first played for the Dolphins he only had £2 on him to pay the
match fee! Unfortunately due to various career moves that has seen him
work abroad during cricket seasons, Dolphins have not been able to
benefit from his undoubted talents but he has recently resettled back
in England and has now made a welcome return to the club. Andy was
Bowler of the Year in both 1998 and 2000 and is one of only 2 bowlers
representing the Dolphins ever to take 9 wickets |

Brett joined the Dolphins at the
beginning of the 2006 season, and quickly settled in, enjoying a laugh
and a joke with the rest of the lads. He made a rapid impression on
himself as well as the rest of the team by having a tattoo of a
Dolphin inscribed on his upper arm! He also favours wearing some
rather nice delicate Dolphin earrings on match days! Brett likes to
bat higher up the order and made a excellent undefeated 31 on his
debut. He is also a good slip fielder, and we look forward to a match
when he and Finchy wil appear side by side in the slip cauldron! |
